Dipankar Datta, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for promotion to the position of Supreme Court Judge by the Supreme Court Collegium.

Digital Desk: Justice Dipankar Datta, the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for promotion to the position of judge in the Supreme Court Collegium. A meeting of the Collegium was convened on Monday under the direction of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, according to a statement posted on the website of the supreme court.

The statement read, "The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended elevating Mr. Justice Dipankar Datta, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court (PHC: Calcutta), as judge of the Supreme Court.

On June 22, 2006, Justice Datta was appointed as a permanent judge to the Calcutta High Court bench. On April 28, 2020, he was promoted as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
