Raipur: Breaking all the barriers of poverty, a 21-year old youth from Chhattisgarh has brought laurels to the state by doing Purna Matsyendrasana yoga for 5 minutes and 6 seconds.

Dheerendra Kumar, a son of a sweeper, included his name in the 'World Wide Book of Records', held virtually on September 16 of this year. In this competition, 477 participants from America, Europe and Africa, and many countries participated, in which Dhirendra Kumar got the first position representing India.

Dhirendra Kumar, who has been studying yoga in Raipur for the last three years, got inspiration from Tularam Verma, a government school teacher, when he was in sixth grade.

Dhirendra said, "My inspiration is Sir Tularam Verma, a teacher from my village. Sir often motivates the children of my village to do yoga. After seeing this, my interest in yoga started growing day by day, and today after 12 years of hard work, I succeeded in making a record."

The record-breaker has a list of medals in his name, including a bronze medal at Asian Games in 2017 and a silver medal in the World Yoga Championship held in Europe in the year 2019.

Dhirendra's mother, Savitri Verma, works as a sweeper in an Ayurvedic hospital at Mara village. To help his mother with monthly expenses, Dhirendra gives tuition to the children in the village.

Notably, Dhirendra Kumar's village, Marra, is two kilometers away from the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's Bhupesh Baghel hometown Belodi.

Dhirendra Kumar, who desires to pursue a Master's in yoga, appeals for financial support from the Chhattisgarh chief minister for his future studies.
