Kabul: The Militant Group of Afghanistan - the Taliban has been ruthlessly advancing and capturing provincial capitals of the country. The Taliban has taken their fight to the cities after seizing much of the countryside in recent months.

Since Friday, the insurgents have taken over five provincial capitals in Afghanistan, overwhelming Afghan security forces and government agencies. The lightning offensive by the Taliban has left many senior government officials fleeing from their homes and take refuge in other neighboring districts.

Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, and Talqan, three of the most important provinces of northern Afghanistan, fell within hours of each other on Sunday, even as security forces continued to fight against the insurgents, stopping them from further advancing.
