Six suitcases containing Rs 4 crore were being carried by the accused, Sathish, a BJP member and manager of a private hotel, his brother Naveen, and one driver, Perumal.

Digital Desk: Three people, including a BJP worker, were taken into custody on Saturday at Chennai's Tambaram railway station with cash worth at Rs 4 crore. The Chengalpattu DEO stated that the confiscated cash has been forwarded to the Income Tax Department for additional scrutiny.

Six suitcases containing Rs 4 crore were being carried by the accused, Sathish, a BJP member and manager of a private hotel, his brother Naveen, and one driver, Perumal. When the flying squad apprehended the three, they were scheduled to take a train to Tirunelveli.

Sources claim that Satish admitted to following the team of BJP MP candidate Nainar Nagenthiran from Tirunelveli with instructions.
Investigations into the matter were ongoing.

"On Saturday, the flying squad confiscated Rs 4 crore from the Tambaram railway station in Chennai. The Income Tax Department has been tasked with looking into it more. According to the Model Code of Conduct, the Income Tax Department will look into the seized money since it exceeds Rs 10 lakh, " the Chengalpattu DEO stated.

As a result, the Income Tax Department has received all of the information regarding the seizure. The Income Tax Department will thereafter look into the case in great detail," the DEO continued.

Days before Tamil Nadu, which has 39 Lok Sabha seats, is scheduled to vote in a single phase on April 19, this development occurred.

It may be mentioned that the counting of votes will be held on June 4.
