New Delhi: Income tax officials raided the offices of media group Dainik Bhaskar’s across the country this morning. The group has been accused of tax evasion, sources said.

Taxmen searched the premises of Dainik Bhaskar in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The homes and offices of the group’s promoters were also raided, news agency ANI said, quoting sources.

Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh tweeted that tax officials "are present" at half-a-dozen premises of the group, including at its office at Press Complex in Bhopal.

One of the largest newspaper groups in the country, the Dainik Bhaskar was at the forefront of reporting on the scale of devastation in the second wave of Covid in April-May.
