Digital Desk: The Tea Association of India (TAI) called for an hourly wage rate for garden workers and applauded the Assam Government's initiative to host a multi-stakeholder consultation in front of ILO (International Labour Organisation) delegates.
According to the Minimum Wages Act, hourly pay is acceptable for workers in tea gardens.
The state government's labour department organised a conference on Saturday, and the ILO was reportedly called to provide recommendations on minimum salaries and acceptable wages for plantation employees. In addition, there were labour unions and other producer organisation representatives present at the conference.
According to ILO representatives, salaries should be set with concern for the tea industry's sustainability.

When presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2023–2024 in March of this year, Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced the extension of the Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives Scheme (ATISIS) and added that the orthodox subsidy had been raised from Rs. 7 to Rs. 10. The finance minister added that this would assist commemorate the 200 illustrious years of Assam Tea in a suitable way and revealed that the subsidy increase would be Rs 12.
