The Central Committee of Tea Tribes’ Association (CCTOA) has issued a stern warning to the Assam government, alleging that numerous educational institutions across the state are illegally converting reserved seats designated for the Tea Tribes community into general category admissions. The association has threatened to launch a comprehensive statewide agitation if these alleged irregularities are not promptly addressed and rectified.
According to statements released by the CCTOA, these institutions are systematically denying eligible students from the Tea Tribes their rightful access to higher education by reallocating seats specifically set aside for them. This practice, the association asserts, undermines the constitutional provisions for reservation and perpetuates educational disparities faced by the community. The CCTOA highlighted that such actions directly contravene the spirit of affirmative action designed to uplift historically marginalized groups.
