Washington: Leading technology giant Microsoft has announced on Tuesday that the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) has been transformed into an application.

This new app can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Store on Windows 11 operating systems.

Sources from Microsoft has also announced that a preview version is available for users at the moment. This allows them to install WSL without the burdain of adding or removing programs and selecting WSL as an optional inbox component.

Besides, this app can be now serviced through the app store itself. This means that users would be able to independently update WSL from Windows. This as a result will also allow them to receive the latest updates and features much faster than normal. Additionally, they would not require to reinstall a new version of the windows system or upgtade into a new one.

According to a statement by Craig Loewen, who is a program manager at the Windows developer platform, the goal of the company is to make WSL easier to install through the Microsoft Store. He added that in this way the users will be able to get the latest updates faster . He also said that in the long term Microsoft would also like to move WSL users to use the store version too.
