Digital Desk: Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao, today wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to withdraw the proposed reforms to the IAS Cadre Rules. In a letter to Prime Minister Modi Narendra Modi, Rao expressing his strong disapproval against the proposed reforms to the All India Services (Cadre) Rules, 1954, wrote, “The proposed revisions militate against the federal framework of the constitution, both in language and spirit.” “The proposed amendment seeks to unilaterally disturb the above position, with the Central Government assuming the power to take officers on deputation without the concurrence of the officers or State government concerned. This is a dangerous move which is against the constitutional framework and spirit of cooperative federalism.” he added in the letter. Moreover, Rao also wrote that the proposed reforms would severely erode the All India Service character of the IAS, IPS and IFS. Earlier, CMs of non-BJP ruled states, including Kerala, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, also wrote to PM Modi asking him to withdraw the proposed reforms to the IAS Cadre Rules. According to reports, the planned revisions to the IAS Cadre Rules will take away states’ ability to override the Centre’s request for officials on central deputation.
