Digital Desk: A major militant attack has shaken the Kakopathar region of Assam, where suspected ULFA (Independent) militants carried out a deadly assault on the Indian Army camp shortly after midnight. The intense exchange of gunfire, which lasted for nearly half an hour, has plunged the entire area into a state of tension and fear.

According to reports, the incident took place around 12:15 a.m. when the attackers, allegedly traveling in a truck from the Doomdooma direction, launched three UBGL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher) grenades toward the Kakopathar Army camp. The attack began in the vicinity of the office of a local small tea workers association, which was almost opposite the camp. Moments after the grenade blasts, continuous gunfire erupted between the militants and army personnel, turning the quiet night into a battleground.

As per report, that 3  Indian Army jawans sustained injuries during the fierce exchange. The injured personnel were immediately evacuated for medical treatment. After the attack, the army troops rapidly surrounded the whole locality preventing any movement of civilians in the vicinity of the camp. The site is only limited to both the Indian Army and Assam Police since combing operations are still going on to trace the perpetrators.

Preliminary intelligence inputs suggest that the attack was orchestrated by ULFA (I) militants, though official confirmation is awaited. The assailants are believed to have fled toward Arunachal Pradesh after the assault.

The ambush at night has caused havoc across the upper Assam with the security forces in a high alert state. With the ongoing investigations, police are striving to identify the motive and potential large network in the attack on the Kakopathar Army base.
