Digital Desk: Actor Pankaj Tripathi is not taking his designation as the Election Commission of India's national hero lightly. He acknowledges that the title carries a great deal of responsibility, but he is determined to carry it out in any case.

The actor, who is well-known for his roles in such movies and television programs as Mirzapur, Sacred Games, Mimi, and Newton among others, was chosen for the award because of his involvement with the ECI in raising voter awareness. The actor was present when the Chief Election Commissioner made the declaration in Delhi. He once served as Bihar's state icon.

"I was genuinely shocked when I saw my name announced on stage for the honor. Unhone mera phele ke kaam ko notice karke yeh diya hai!" shouts Tripathi. "However, it was a wonderful surprise for me when Mr. Rajiv Kumar revealed my name and bestowed the title upon me in between the show as I wasn't expecting this to happen," she continues. As the State Icon of Bihar, I think they evaluated my sincerity and commitment before bestowing upon me such a big honor.

The 46-year-old continues, "They recognized that I constantly want to help spread the word about how important democracy is. In fact, they thanked me for accepting any compensation for the same when they announced my name. I was motivated to participate because I love democracy, and that love was recognized with a tag.

The actor said that he will soon finish the necessary steps to assume the post and begin working.

"I am quite appreciative that I can contribute in some way. I believe we have a social obligation, and I will do all in my power to live up to it. I'll work to raise people's knowledge of the value of democracy and voting. I hope I can live up to the obligations that come with this honor, he adds, adding that he will make himself as readily available as possible whenever the Election Commission of India needs me to perform my duties via voice, video, and in-person to encourage young people and Indian residents to vote.

He ends by expressing gratitude to the ECI staff. The actor from Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach continues, "I am grateful to the ECI and to Mr. Rajiv Kumar, the top Election Commissioner, and Anup Chandra Pandey, the election commissioner of India, for considering me as the National Icon for Election Commission of India."
