Digital Desk: Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk, recently disclosed on social media that the first employee to be recruited by him for his electric vehicle company’s Autopilot team, was Indian-origin Ashok Elluswamy.

Elon Musk further disclosed that Ashok is actually the head of Autopilot engineering.

Tweeting about the same, Elon Musk said, “Ashok was the first person to be recruited from my tweet saying that Tesla is starting an Autopilot team!”

Feeling proud on his selection and on his team, Musk further stated, “The Tesla Autopilot AI team is extremely talented. Some of the smartest people in the world.”

Elluswamy was earlier associated with Volkswagen Electronic Research Lab and WABCO Vehicle Control System before joining Elon Musk.

The engineer holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering Guindy, Chennai and a Master’s degree in Robotics System Development from Carnegie Mellon University.

The recruitment was made after Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla is planning to hire hardcore Artificial Intelligence (AI) engineers who care about solving problems that directly affect people’s lives in a major way.

Curiosity is rising high among Twitter users after this unusual recruitment by Elon Musk from his tweet.

Elluswamy has been working with Tesla since 2014 as a software engineer in the Autopilot department. Since then, the engineer has rose to the ranks and now serves as the Director of the Autopilot Engineering team.

Prior to Tesla, he was working as an intern with WABCO vehicle Control System.
