Digital Desk: Three eighth-graders from a government school in the Karur area of Tamil Nadu fled their homes to attend a BTS performance in South Korea. Later, the police came to their rescue.
Passionate fans of BTS, the wildly successful Korean pop group, the three girls departed for their Thanthonimalai school on January 4 and never came back.
When their teachers learned of their absence from school, the situation became apparent. Their parents were so shocked that they reported them missing to the police.
Their allegation led to the start of a search and the scanning of CCTV at train and bus terminals. To find the girls, two specialized teams were established.
It appears that the girls were not abducted since they were seen getting on a train at the Karur railway station. Then, to find the girls, the Railway Police promptly sent out an alert to every train station. After that, the three were spotted at the Katpadi train station, where the police came to their rescue.
The girls told the police that they had decided to watch the BTS concert and had left home to travel to Korea after watching their music performance on their parents' smartphones.
The group had left their house with cash that they had apparently used to buy concert accessories. They ultimately decided to go back to Karur after realizing they didn't have enough money to travel to Korea.
They had just started eating at Katpadi Junction when they realized they had missed the train and were now stuck there. The girls were saved because commuters who realized the girls were missing informed the authorities.
The girls were subsequently brought before a district official, taken to a children's home for counseling, and eventually given back to their parents.
