Tokyo: With just a few days left to begin the much-awaited Tokyo Olympics, three athletes, two of them staying at the Olympics village have been tested positive for covid-19, the Games Organising Committee said on Sunday. However, the organisers did not reveal their identities.

 A sum of 10 cases was detected on the day including five “Games concerned personnel, one contractor and a journalist as per the covid-19 positive case list uploaded by the OC.

Moreover, the total number of Games-related covid-19 cases has now risen to 55.

Till now, the organising committee did not specify whether the two infected athletes staying at the games village will be quarantine elsewhere. The third infected athlete is staying at a designated Games hotel as per the report.

This comes after a non-athlete at the games village tested positive for covid-19 and was shifted out of the premises.

Notably, the first batch of Indian athletes for the Tokyo Olympics has left on July 17 and has landed here this morning.
