Guwahati: With her feisty height and a thumping punch, Assam's pride Lovlina Borgohain was moving onto a winning start, but stopped at bronze after facing defeat at the semis.

Lakhs in her homeland were glued to watch the match, many praying for her victory at the sporting event. Starting at a slow pace, the match picked up excitement later when Lovlina continued to rain punches but couldn't move forward after her opponent from Turkey overpowered towering Lovlina.

With this Lovlina Borgohain will become the third player from India to get a medal in the Tokyo Olympics, increasing the medal tally to three for the country.

Lovlina lost the semi-final bout to Busenaz Sürmeneli of Turkey 0-5 in women's welterweight (64-69kg).
