Digital Desk: The festive spirit of Rongali Bihu was shattered in Merapani after two young children tragically drowned in a pond at Indrapur.
The incident occurred while a family from Musharbhanga was visiting the home of Tarun Chutia in No. 2 Upper Tarani village.
According to reports, the 5-year-old son of Dhairya Gogoi and the 6-year-old son of Tarun Chutia were playing behind the residence when they accidentally fell into the water.
After a frantic search, family members found the children floating in the pond.
They were immediately rushed to the Merapani Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The bodies have since been sent to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The heartbreaking incident has left the entire Merapani area in deep mourning.
