Digital Desk: A wave of grief has swept through the Katajhar area near Barpeta Road following the tragic death of a 12-year-old who drowned in the Beki River.
The victim, identified as Shamim Mondal, was a Class VI student and a resident of Katajhar Pathar.
According to local reports, the incident occurred when Shamim went to the river to bathe alongside a group of friends.
The outing turned fatal when Shamim unexpectedly slipped into a deep stretch of the river and was unable to resurface.
As his friends raised an alarm, local residents rushed to the spot to launch an immediate rescue operation.
After nearly 30 minutes of search, his body was finally recovered from the water.
On receiving information, a team from Barpeta Road Police reached the spot to assess the situation.
The body has since been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The sudden and tragic death of the young student has left the entire community in mourning.
