Digital Desk: In a swift operation, police successfully rescued two schoolgirls from a train at Bongaigaon after they were lured away with false promises of employment in Delhi.
Three youths from Delhi, suspected of orchestrating the plan, were also detained.
The rescued girls, students of Class 10 and 12 of Diphu Government Boys' Higher Secondary School, were reported missing two days ago.
According to police reports, the suspects enticed the girls via Facebook, promising them lucrative jobs in the capital.
The three youths had reportedly been staying in Diphu at the home of another local contact they had also befriended through the social media platform.
The suspects have been identified as 18-year-old Ramen Kumar and 19-year-old Rohit Chand from Metro Vihar, and 18-year-old Roshan Kumar from Majnu Ka Tila, Delhi.
The matter came to light when the girls failed to return home from school, prompting their guardians to file an FIR at the Diphu Police Station.
Acting on the complaint, Diphu Police coordinated with Bongaigaon Police to intercept the group during their journey.
Last night, both the rescued girls and the three detainees were brought back to Diphu Police Station.
Police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine if the detained youths are linked to a wider human trafficking network.
