Digital Desk: In a tragic incident at the Guwahati Railway Station, a loco motive train driver was electrocuted to death last night while preparing the vehicle to start the journey. According to the Railway Police, the deceased, identified as Shiva Saikia was checking the water quantity of the train Lachit Express when he got electrocuted to death by the overhead electric wire. Following the accident, Shiva Saikia was charred to death. The doctors upon bringing him at the hospital declared him brought dead. Also Read: Meghalaya witnessed Omicron surge, Centre asks NE states to boost testing The Lachit Express was scheduled to depart at 10.20 pm and the co-loco driver had already checked the water quantity, however, Saikia went on to check it himself to reconfirm, following which the tragic incident occurred. Shiva Saikia was a resident of Sarupathar town of Golaghat district. The body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for postmortem. Last week, on Thursday, 12 coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train (train no. 15633UP) derailed and flipped at Dohomoni in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, killing at least five persons and injuring over 45 others. The injured were brought to Jalpaigudi District Hospital and New Moinagudi District Hospital, according to Indian Railways. When the disaster occurred at Domohani in Jalpaiguri about 5 p.m. on Thursday, the train was travelling from Bikaner in Rajasthan to Guwahati in Assam via Patna.
