Mumbai: Lawyer and well-known tribal rights activist Sudha Bharadwaj walked out of jail after three years on Thursday. Along with 15 others, she was arrested in the Elgar Parishad case.
Reportedly, a 60-year-old activist was released from the Byculla women’s prison after the National Investigation Agency (NIA)court set bail conditions yesterday.
Earlier, the apex court rejected the NIA’s plea to stay default bail granted to her by the Bombay High Court on December 1.

As per the bail conditions, she will have to stay in Mumbai and have to submit her passport to the special NIA court. Moreover, she cannot talk with the media about the case. She has also been directed not to contact other accused linked in the case and not make any international calls.
As per reports, she was released on a provisional cash bail of Rs 50,000 and had directed by the court to visit the nearest police station every fortnight.
On August 28, 2018, Bharadwaj was arrested over her alleged derogatory speeches at the Edger Parishad conclave on December 31, 2017.
The police report said that her speech triggered violence near the Koregaon-Bhima war memorial located on the city’s outskirts.
Additionally, the police claimed that the Maoists backed the conclave.
