Guwahati: Ahead of Diwali celebrations, Assam police arrested two individuals from Guwahati who were involved in gambling.

Assam police ramped up a drive against gambling during the Diwali celebrations in the state. In a development, police held a gambling duo in Guwahati, Assam. One of the arrested men was identified as Prafulla Murari.

Police seized two mobile phones, cash along with gambling paraphernalia from two arrested gamblers.

Police authorities have also asked locals to inform them about any gambling actives during the Diwali celebrations.

On November 2, Special DGP L&O GP Singh tweeted, "Next few days would see attempts at organized gambling activities including amongst well to do people. People may inform of any such credible information of organized gambling activity to local @assampolice unit or Inbox me to allow Action to be taken."

Continuing the thread, Singh also shared another tweet sharing the news of arresting two gamblers from Guwahati. Singh posted, "Action taken today by @GuwahatiPolice in response to information provided by citizens regarding gambling. @assampolice. Thanks to the responsible citizens and Well done, Guwahati Police."

According to police reports, around 30 gamblers were arrested by Assam police during the Diwali celebrations last year.
