  • Chirang district's Excise Superintendent Gaurang Choudhury and Excise Inspector Dibyajyoti Sharma have been suspended with immediate effect

Digital Desk: Chirang district's Excise Superintendent Gaurang Choudhury and Excise Inspector Dibyajyoti Sharma have been suspended with immediate effect, per an order signed by Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

Both officers are accused of allowing the construction of illicit liquor factories within their borders, resulting in a significant loss of government revenue, and posing serious health risks to the general public.

The Excise Superintendent of Bongaigaon district and the Excise Department's anti-smuggling team from Guwahati conducted a raid near the India-Bhutan border in the Shantipur area on June 19.

During the raid, the team busted an illegal factory producing liquor without the knowledge of Chirang Excise Department.

Rs 50 lakh worth of illicit raw materials and different branded liquors were confiscated by the Excise Department from the liquor factory.
