Digital Desk: The heritage-rich Amingaon Railway Station is set to be renovated and get a new look soon.
The Amingaon Railway Station, built in 1907, witnessed its final train journey in 1963 following the opening of the Saraighat Bridge.
This railway station, an important mode of communication in Northeast India, was visited by Mahatma Gandhi three times during his travel to the southern part of Guwahati.
Before the construction of the Saraighat Bridge, Amingaon Railway Station was the only way to connect with other states by land.
This historic railway station gradually lost significance after the Saraighat Bridge was built.
Now, the Northeast Frontier Railway has begun restoration work on the railway station as part of its heritage preservation program.
After 62 years of abandonment, the station has been cleared of encroachments and a concrete wall has been built to protect the historic legacy.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, visited the station to assess its condition and make decisions about its preservation in the days ahead.
