Digital Desk: Two accused mobile thieves were shot and injured by Guwahati police on Wednesday night during separate encounters in the city.

Mahibul Haque, a 23-year-old alleged mobile thief, was shot in the leg by police in the first incident, rendering him immobilised. The incident took place at around 2.50 am in the Birubari area.

In another incident that occurred that same evening, a 20-year-old man named Abhijit Rabha was shot by police and suffered injuries for his claimed involvement in mobile theft activities in Panikakhati on the outskirts of Guwahati city.

In an effort to catch the fleeing suspects, the police had to use arms. After the event, injured people were taken to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for medical care.

They are currently under police custody in the hospital and are said to be recovering well.

It is to be noted that further investigation into the matter is underway.
