MAJULI: Assam transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary today received two boats, MV Rajlakshmi and RPL Digaru, at Nimatighat in Jorhat district.
These two boats, fitted with new double-engine, has the power of 200 horsepower (HP) each.
Two Ro-Pax and one vessel, MV Panei, are already in operation at Nimatighat.
On the other hand, one catamaran, MV Lohit and one rescue and survey boat, SDB Vikrant are on the way to Majuli. These vessels were flagged off by state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Friday.
With the introduction of MV Rajlakshmi and RPL Digaru, a total of six vessels will be available at the service of residents of Majuli.
On the other hand, as many as three night bus service, between Majuli and Lakhimpur, have been introduced for passengers who prefer to avoid the water transport.

Moreover, four bus services, between Majuli and Jorhat, have been introduced for the convenience of the people of the first island district of the country.
This comes days after three persons died when a private boat capsized and sank in the Brahmaputra, following a head-on collision with a government-owned ferry near Nimatighat.
Twelve people, including the owner of the boat and six employees of the Inland Water Transport (IWT) department, have been arrested in connection with the accident.
