Rajasthan Royals Confirms Two IPL Matches in Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium in May Amidst Lok Sabha Election Rescheduling

Digital Desk: Ranjit Borthakur, Chairman of the Rajasthan Royals, announced on Thursday that two IPL matches will take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati in May. This decision comes amidst the impending 17th IPL season, set to commence nationwide tomorrow. Notably, the BCCI had previously revealed the preliminary schedule of the tournament due to the Lok Sabha elections.

In a recent statement, Board Secretary Jay Shah affirmed that all IPL matches will be hosted in India. Borthakur reiterated this stance, confirming the Rajasthan Royals' participation in two matches in Guwahati, scheduled for May, despite the absence of an official schedule.

"Originally slated for May 5 and 16, the matches in Guwahati were rescheduled due to the Lok Sabha elections in the region," explained Borthakur.

Expressing concern for Assam's cricket enthusiasts, he assured, "Rajasthan Royals remains committed to bringing the thrill of IPL to Assam and the North East, just as we did last year at the ACA's Barsapara Stadium."

Borthakur emphasised the broader significance beyond financial gains, stating, "Hosting IPL matches in Assam isn't solely about profit. Despite financial challenges, we're dedicated to bringing IPL to Guwahati annually, fostering a positive impact across all spheres."

Last year marked Assam and the North East's inaugural entry into the IPL circuit, with the Rajasthan Royals hosting two home matches at the Barsapara Stadium against the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
