The very next day, he found that Uber had tried to take £35,427.97 from his bank account...

Digital Desk: In a strange incident, an uber customer was charged £35,000 (Rs 32 lakh) for a 15-minute trip. The ride was for 6.4 kilometers. The incident took place in the United Kingdom, where Oliver Kaplan (22) had booked an Uber trip from Hyde to Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, England, but somehow the drop-off location for the trip had been set to another place named Ashton-under-Lyne, which is near Adelaide, Australia—about 16,000 kilometers away.

This resulted in their whopping fare. The very next day, he found that Uber had tried to take £35,427.97 from his bank account. I ordered an Uber like I do most nights on the way home from work and everything seemed normal. The driver arrived, I got into the Uber, and he took me exactly where I was meant to be going. It was a 15-minute journey-tops-and the bill was said to be between £10 and £11, charged to my debit card," said Oliver.

Further, when confronted by the customer service department of Uber, the real reason was revealed. Uber adjusted Oliver's fare to the real amount of £10.73 before the money was transferred from his account.

"It said the amount couldn't be taken because I had insufficient funds. If I had that sort of money, I would have had to chase them for a refund-it could have landed me in all sorts of financial trouble," Oliver said.

Uber said, "As soon as this issue was raised on Oliver's account, we immediately corrected the fare. We're very sorry for any inconvenience caused."
