Digital Desk: The three-day Charaideo Festival, 2025 began on Thursday at the Charaideo Maidam Ground. This festival has been organized to celebrate the UNESCO World Heritage site tag for the Charaideo Maidam.


An attractive tourist destination, Charaideo Maidam is the pyramids-shaped burial grounds of Ahom Kings and other important members of the Ahom dynasty in the historic town Charaideo of Assam.


Charaideo Maidam is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 26 July 2024 following a nomination by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in the year 2023.


The Charaideo Festival was inaugurated by the DC of Charaideo, Neha Yadav. At the event, she said that Charaideo Maidam's inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage list has established Assam's rich culture on the global level. This tag has opened up new ways for cultural exchange and hopes to boost the tourism industry of Assam.


She further added that the Charaideo festival is organized to showcase the history and legacy of the Ahom dynasty and the vibrant traditions of the people of Assam.


The festival will be attended by Myanmar's Ambassador to India Zaw Ooo and his wife. A deputy minister of Lao and the first secretaries of tourism from Malawi and Ghana are expected to attend the festival.


The festival has been showcasing ethnic food items, handicrafts by local artisans, an educational tour of the maidams, and various interactive sessions.
