Digital Desk: UNICEF India on Saturday named Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana as its National Ambassador. The film star, who received a National Award, shared the stage with seven children who are representatives of the Butterfly NGO and are doing exceptional work at the grassroots level to increase access to education and raise awareness about child rights and various social issues such as gender equality and menstruation.
"As UNICEF's Celebrity Advocate, I have connected with children and talked about internet safety, cyberbullying, mental health, and gender equality. "In this new capacity with UNICEF, I will continue to be a strong advocate for children's rights, particularly for the most vulnerable children, by supporting solutions to issues that affect them the most," Ayushmann stated.
Throughout the previous two years, the actor has served as Unicef's celebrity advocate, using his "strong voice to stand with children and challenge damaging social norms and gender stereotypes," according to Unicef India Representative Cynthia McCaffrey.
"We look forward to working with him on the most pressing child rights issues of our time - ending violence, mental health, and gender equality - and towards a better future for all children," she added.
Ayushmann has proactively engaged in a variety of events to lend his voice and influence, including World Children's Day, International Women's Day, International Day of the Girl Child, World Day Against Child Labor, and Safer Internet Day.
Most recently, on World Children's Day 2022, with Sachin Tendulkar serving as the UNICEF South Asia Regional Ambassador and with girls and boys competing from all around India, Ayushman highlighted equality and non-discrimination through gender-inclusive sports.
