The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Kohima (NIMSR), Nagaland's first medical college, was inaugurated by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya yesterday.
Digital Desk: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will lay the foundation stone and formally inaugurate several health infrastructure projects in Assam funded by the PM-ABHIM, XV-FC Health Grants, and NHM on October 16 to strengthen the state's healthcare system.
Tomorrow at 2 pm, in the presence of Keshab Mahanta, minister of health for Assam, the union minister will dedicate the projects and lay the foundation stones.
Informing the news, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X, “Hon’ble Health Minister, Thank you for your keen interest towards improving Assam’s health sector. Under Hon’ble PM’s leadership, the state is witnessing a transformative change in ensuring proper health care facilities in the remote parts of Assam.”

The NIMSR has renowned faculty and residents who continue to focus on capacity building, competence and confidence development, collaboration and cooperation to further develop through partnerships, MOUs, and networking with other reputable medical colleges and healthcare organisations of national and international standing, as well as state-of-the-art skill development domain-specific teaching-learning tools, laboratories, a central library, sports facilities, and a Medical Education Unit.
Nagaland University is connected to NIMSR Kohima. It was able to start the state's first medical college after 60 years of statehood when it acquired the National Medical Commission's (NMC) Letter of Permission for Admission of 100 MBBS Seats for the Academic Year 2023–2024 in April 2023.
This year, NIMSR admitted 85 MBBS students from the state of Nagaland and 6 students from all of India, and they began taking MBBS lessons on September 1 after the induction program.
