Digital Desk: Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, visited Guwahati to assess the status of projects to build new national highways in the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Nagaland.
Senior Ministry officials, as well as representatives from four states and Union Minister General VK Singh, attended the meeting. accompanied by the CM of Assam Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Discussions yesterday covered land acquisition concerns, the status of active projects, projects that were offered, the use of new technologies, disputes and arbitration, and potential financial interventions. Additionally, Mr. Gadkari inspected the four states' delayed projects and provided specific directives to get them moving again.
The Minister instructed all authorities to complete projects as soon as possible. In order to build world-class transportation infrastructure in North Eastern States, he emphasized the significance of collaboration and partnership between Central and State authorities.
After reviewing several national highway projects in the region's north-east, the Union Minister later said during a late-night press conference that new projects worth 50,000 crore rupees for Assam, 9,000 crore rupees for Meghalaya, 5,000 crore rupees for Nagaland, and 4,000 crore rupees for Sikkim had been approved. He unveiled a number of infrastructure improvement initiatives for Assam. He also gave the state's numerous Detailed Project Reports (DPR) his approval.
According to Mr. Gadkari, Assam's road infrastructure will be up to par with international norms within two years. He stated that in addition to 10 flyovers throughout the State, his Ministry has approved the DPR for a ring road in Guwahati that would include a new bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Narengi and Kuruwa.
The project's estimated cost is 4500 crores of rupees. Mr. Gadkari complimented the chief minister of Assam for his quick actions in the land acquisition process for the State's road development.
