The Indian illegal immigrants live a life of fear and uncertainty each day in the US.

Digital Desk: A U.S. military plane has begun deporting migrants to India, marking President Donald Trump's first significant crackdown on Indian immigrants. A C-17 aircraft, carrying migrants, departed for India, although it will not arrive for at least 24 hours. While a U.S. embassy spokesperson refused to provide specific details, they emphasized that the U.S. is strictly enforcing its immigration laws, tightening borders, and removing illegal migrants. These actions reflect the government's stance that illegal migration poses significant risks.

The U.S. military has begun deporting over 5,000 migrants detained in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California, using military flights. So far, flights have taken migrants to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras, with costs for deportation flights to Guatemala reaching at least $4,675 per migrant.

The Indian government has expressed a willingness to cooperate with the Trump administration on repatriating Indian citizens residing illegally in the U.S. India has reiterated its commitment to combat illegal immigration due to its links with organized crime. Indian officials have stated they are ready to facilitate the return of Indian nationals if proper documentation is provided, verifying their nationality. According to reports, approximately 18,000 Indian migrants have been identified for deportation, though the actual number may be higher.

United States military transported 205 illegal Indian migrants back to Amritsar Punjab on Monday as part of increasing efforts by the Donald Trump administration to remove undocumented immigrants. After verification procedures the sources indicated that each person would receive their return documents. The aircraft plans to make a stop at Ramstein in Germany for fuel service.

The number of Indian illegal migrants has been steadily increasing, particularly at the northern US border where they now represent nearly a quarter of all illegal crossings.

Indian nationals make up about 3% of illegal immigrants in the U.S. as of fiscal 2024, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. However, the number of Indian migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border has increased, with Indians now representing nearly a quarter of all illegal crossings at the northern border. A 2022 Department of Homeland Security report estimated that around 220,000 unauthorized Indian immigrants were residing in the U.S. at the time.
