Digital Desk: A gruesome murder has sent shockwaves through the Assam-Meghalaya border area of Kasharipara in Hatsingimari. Abdul Akher Shah, a village headman, fell victim to a brutal killing reportedly orchestrated by a group of miscreants.
The horrifying incident occurred in broad daylight on Thursday while Shah was at his residence in Kasharipara. In a chilling act of violence, the assailants beheaded him, leaving the community in a state of shock and grief.
According to the victim's family, political motives may have driven this barbaric act.
Earlier that day, Shah, a resident of Gotabari village under Sukchar Police Station in South Salmara Mankachar district, had gone to the market with his wife for Eid shopping.
After sending his wife to another place, he went back to his residence in Kasharipara to rest. It was during this time that the attackers struck, taking his life in a brutal manner.
Local residents discovered Shah's lifeless body shortly after the incident and promptly alerted the Meghalaya police at Halidiganj.
Police arrived at the scene, conducted a preliminary investigation, and handed over the body to Shah's family with assistance from Sukchar Police in Hatsingimari.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and grief in the region. Abdul Akher Shah was not only a prominent leader but also the nephew of Abdul Salam Shah, the AIUDF candidate from the Mankachar constituency.
The family and local residents are demanding a thorough investigation by both the Meghalaya and Assam administrations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
