Digital Desk: A tense situation occurred in Dighalbali, Hojai, during the night of August 12, when a violent clash erupted between Assam police personnel and members of a local tribal community.
The violent confrontation left several police and CRPF personnel injured. The local residents attacked the police and CRPF personnel with sticks and stones.
As per report, the incident stemmed after locals allegedly detained a JCB and a tractor, along with their drivers, with locals claiming that the vehicles damaged roads by cutting soil in the area.
The police arrived at the site to release the detained vehicles and drivers, leading to physical attacks and counterattacks between the police and the community.
Later, two additional police team vehicles arrived at the scene to control the situation. Several police vehicles and a journalist's two-wheeler were damaged in the clash.
Police and CRPF teams were forced to retreat due to the aggressive actions of locals.
The police resorted to baton charges against the attackers and fired two rounds in the air to control the situation.
Some of the attackers have been arrested by the police, while further investigations are underway to identify additional culprits involved in the incident.
