Digital Desk: Refusing to follow the covid-19 guidelines has become a habit among the political leaders in recent days. In the most recent episode, Karnataka minister Umesh Katti decided not to wear a mask in a public place, the report said.
When questioned about it, Katti stated, "Wearing a mask, according to the prime minister, is neither a restriction nor a matter of self-responsibility. It’s a personal choice whether to wear a mask or not. I don't feel obligated to wear it, so I haven't."
His comments come at a time when India is fighting against the third wave of covid-19, with various states enacting limitations to combat the spread of the virus. Moreover, people were also being fined for not wearing masks in public places.
Previously, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar was in the headlines when he declined to get tested for covid-19 after seeming ill on the first day of the Congress' Mekedatu march, which has been halted for the time being due to the third wave of the pandemic.
"Allow the health minister to give his sample if he so desires. Do you think that I'm someone who just came out of an airport? I am well-versed in the law. You may file a case against me, but I will not provide you with a sample." Shivakumar said.
Karnataka recorded 27,156 new covid-19 cases and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours on Monday. There are currently 2,17,297 active cases in the state.
The positivity rate has reduced to 12.45%, while the case fatality rate has dropped to 0.05%.
