Tokyo: Boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated Chen Nien-chin (4-1) at women's welterweight quarterfinal at Tokyo Olympics to seal a berth for a medal.

Chen Nien-chin who is currently ranked third while Lovlina is fifth faced Lovlina Borgohain thrice before and won on all three occasions. Lovlina has now entered the semi-finals this sealing the hope for a medal win.

Soon after the news broke out, dignitaries, political leaders took to Twitter to congratulate the athlete for her terrific punches.

Former Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted, "India is confirmed of a 2nd Olympics medal. What a lovely boxing from Lovlina. @LovlinaBorgohai has reached semi-finals and looking for Gold-medal in #Tokyo2020 Olympics. #Cheer4India

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma too congratulated the athlete for her commendable performance and tweeted, "This is a big punch. You continue to make us proud #LovlinaBorgohain and keep India's flag high and shining at #TokyoOlympics2020. Well done @LovlinaBorgohai
