Digital Desk: Signal has announced the addition of story features to the messaging app. According to a company blog update, "stories have emerged as a new way to communicate, with their own aims, norms, and idiosyncrasies." People use stories to give updates about their lives with no expectation of a reaction because they are transitory, low-risk, and image-heavy. It's important to remember that Instagram initially debuted the stories feature a few years ago, and WhatsApp eventually adopted it.
Similar to WhatsApp status, Signal tales allow you to post text, image, and video updates. Stories are now available in the latest Signal (v6.0) versions for iOS and Android, which are now being rolled out. Signal stories will expire 24 hours after they are shared, but you can easily delete them earlier.
To choose who can see your stories, you can go to Settings > Stories. You can share your story with all of your Signal connections if you want to reach a broad audience. You can construct a personalized story to share with smaller groups of people.
Like read receipts for your chats, you also control whether you send view receipts for stories you look at and whether you see who’s viewed the stories you share. View receipts can be turned on or off in the Settings menu. To keep things private, you’ll only receive stories from people who are in your Signal connections.
Additionally, you can send stories to active group conversations. Everyone in the group can see the story you share with one of your pre-existing group chats, along with any comments and responses made by other members.
