Digital Desk: The former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, said on Friday that he was shot four times in the legs while perched atop a container on Thursday during a long march in Wazirabad.

Khan claimed to have been informed of the impending risk beforehand.

While still a patient at the Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore, where he is receiving medical attention for his wounds, Khan remarked during a televised address, "I had already discovered that there was a plan in place to assassinate me somewhere between Wazirabad and Gujrat."

The cricketer-turned-politician is being treated by Dr. Faisal Sultan, who said that an x-ray of Khan's right leg revealed that his tibia was injured and in fact fractured.

"The main artery is represented by the line on the right leg of this scan. There were bullet pieces extremely close by "said Sultan.

Khan, who was spearheading a protest march against the Shehbaz Sharif administration, was shot in the right leg as he and others ascended on a truck with a container. The incident occurred in the Wazirabad neighborhood of Punjab province.

Khan's right leg was lifted and bandaged as he sat in a wheelchair. He made numerous accusations against the military and political leaders.

Police used tear gas to disperse protesters in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi after they blocked highways shortly after Khan was shot at. Police were seen taking some of the protesters into cars in television footage.

Following a summons from the political party, Khan's followers demonstrated and attempted to break into the governor's residence in Lahore.

Ankur Shukla of Bloomberg Economics said that anger at what many see as an assassination attempt is likely to increase support for the former prime minister and cause instability that will make leading the debt-ridden nation, which has already been hit by floods, even more challenging.

It might now be practically difficult for the ruling party to enact controversial tax increases and budget cuts demanded by the International Monetary Fund for a bailout.

Khan is allegedly using the shooting incident for political purposes, according to defence minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
