Digital Desk: The winter session of Parliament begins today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to interact with the media on the first day of the session, a Lok Sabha secretariat release informed on Tuesday.

In this session, 16 new bills are set to be tabled. 

The day's proceedings will begin with parliamentarians paying tribute to leaders who died this year.

On the first day, several bills are anticipated to be introduced.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002.

Minister of personnel, public grievances, and pensions Jitendra Singh will deliver a statement on the progress of implementation of the recommendations included in the 360th Report of the department-related parliamentary standing committee on science and technology, environment, forests, and climate change on grant demands (2022-2023) applicable to the department of scientific and industrial research, ministry of science and technology.

On the first day, mines minister Danve Raosaheb Dadarao, commerce and industry minister Anupriya Singh Patel, electronic and information technology minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, textile minister Darshana Vikram Jardosh, and commerce minister Som Prakash will also lay papers.

EAM S Jaishankar is also expected to make a statement on the "Latest Developments in India's Foreign Policy."

He will also introduce a bill to establish specific guidelines for the suppression of piracy on the high seas, establish penalties for the crime of piracy,  for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto to be taken into consideration.

The winter session begins on Tuesday and will last till December 29, with 17 sittings spread out over 23 days.
