Workshop organized as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of NEC

In this address, he stressed the need to prioritize the focus areas while also highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the northeast region. 

Digital Desk: A day-long workshop on ‘Role of North Eastern Council in the Development of North East India and the way forward’ was organized by the Higher Education Department, Govt of Assam in association with Cotton University at the Varsity premise today.

Anjan Gogoi, Retd Air Marshal and Member of NEC, graced the event as the guest of honour. In this address, he stressed the need to prioritize the focus areas while also highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the northeast region. He also stressed the necessity to work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

K Moses Chalai, IAS, Secretary, NEC, in his address highlighted the works and achievements of the NEC in the northeast region in general and Assam in particular and the future goals.

Also present at the inaugural event were Prof Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, Cotton University, Narayan Konwar, IAS, Secy to the Govt of Assam, Dept of Higher Education, Rouhin Deb, Chief Economist, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Govt of Assam and Kelvin Kharsing, Planning Advisor, NEC.

The inaugural event was followed by a panel discussion which was moderated by Dr Mousumi Borah, Dean, Academics, Arya Vidyapeeth College; Rouhin Deb, Chief Economist, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Govt of Assam, Prof Kuldeep Baishya, Faculty of Marketing, IIT, Guwahati and Prof Joydeep Baruah, School of Social Sciences, KKHSOU participated in the panel discussion as resource persons. The resource persons shared their expertise on the thrust areas for sustainable development of the northeast region and shared their suggestions on the avenues that could be explored as a way forward.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks delivered by D.J Borkotoki, Addl. Secretary, Dept. of Transformation & Development, Government of Assam. The day-long event was organized as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the North Eastern Council (NEC) that was officially kicked off on the 18th of December, 2022 at Shillong, Meghalaya and was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
