The subject of World Environment Day 2023, as part of the #BeatPlasticPollution campaign, is "Ecosystem Restoration."

Digital Desk: At a time when extreme temperatures, unusual storms and cyclones, and natural disasters constantly remind us of the irreparable damage done to Mother Earth, World Environment Day 2023 provides hope and an opportunity for all of us to contribute to the protection of the environment and the well-being of the planet.

Every year on June 5, World Environment Day has a different host country and a different subject. The West African nation of Côte d'Ivoire will host in 2023, in collaboration with the Netherlands.

World Environment Day 2023: History
In 1972, Stockholm hosted the first United Nations meeting with the environment as its primary focus. It also recognised that every human being has a basic right to live in a healthy environment. As a result of the meeting, the United Nations Environment Programme was founded, ushering in a historic global effort to preserve the environment.

Furthermore, this ceremony commemorated the official declaration of June 5 as World Environment Day. Since then, the UNEP has spearheaded various international initiatives to protect our natural environment.

The subject of World Environment Day 2023, as part of the #BeatPlasticPollution campaign, is "Ecosystem Restoration." As the material slowly creeps into our oceans, soil, and forests, causing irreversible damage, it acts as a reminder that individuals' plastic-related behaviours have a negative impact. The day is made possible by Côte d'Ivoire and supported by the Netherlands.

World Environment Day 2023: Importance
In the wake of these environmental calamities, World Environment Day serves as a rallying point for a lot of environmentalists. It is a day to remember and raise awareness about the ongoing detrimental effects of climate change and global warming.
