Digital Desk: On Sunday, Congress leader P Chidambaram urged voters to consider who they are voting for, claiming that the Yogi Adityanath model had made the state poorer and added 40% to the state's debt.
Campaigning for his party, Chidambaram claimed the Congress' slogan, "Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon," has given the goal of female equality in elections a new meaning.
"For what are you voting?" Chidambaram claimed Adityanath's administration approach is a mix of "authoritarianism, stoking religious animosity, propagating caste enmity, police excesses, and gender violence," according to Chidambaram.
"This paradigm has made the state poorer and kept the bulk of the people of Uttar Pradesh destitute," he said, noting that the state's total outstanding debt is more than Rs 6.62 lakh crore.
"You have sent eight prime ministers to Delhi, and all of them were honorable individuals," he remarked, hailing the people of Uttar Pradesh as the hardest working. And, if Narendra Modi is included, he will be the ninth. Yet, despite this, Uttar Pradesh is poor, its people are impoverished, and the state ranks last in many economic and social indexes."
Chidambaram stated that it is a hard-fought election and that there are four essential candidates, each with their strength and appeal.
