Digital Desk: An attempted suicide incident was reported at Koyla Ghat in Dibrugarh on Monday afternoon.

According to official sources, a 21-year-old youth identified as Piyangshu Morang, a resident of Dirak Chariali under Kakopather Police Station in Tinsukia district, attempted to end his life at the riverbank around 3:10 PM.

Witnesses informed that the youth threatened to either jump into the Brahmaputra River or consume poison if anyone tried to approach him.

Despite repeated appeals by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, he refused to cooperate.

Subsequently, a joint team comprising members of the SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Civil Defence, and DDRF acted swiftly and managed to overpower him before he could carry out his threats.

The rescuers prevented him from jumping into the river as well as from consuming the entire bottle of poison he was carrying.

The individual was immediately rushed to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), where doctors confirmed that his condition was stable and out of danger.

Authorities have initiated further inquiry into the circumstances that led to the attempted suicide.
