Zorba, a male Belgian Malinois, was hired in 2011 as the nation's first dog squad for wildlife crimes in Assam at the request of biodiversity group Aaranyak.
Digital Desk: Zorba, the dog who was actively involved in anti-poaching operations, died Friday night in Assam owing to age and health concerns. According to ANI, Zorba was the first K9 unit member of Aaranyak, India's most recognised biodiversity protection organization.
For eight long years, the dog served Aaranyak and patrolled different rhino conservation sites in Assam.
Zorba, a male Belgian Malinois, was hired in 2011 as the nation's first dog squad for wildlife crimes in Assam at the request of biodiversity group Aaranyak.
Aaranyak, one of India's leading biodiversity conservation organisations, mourned the death of Zorba, the organization's first k9 unit member who was instrumental in tracking down poachers in Assam.
According to a press release made by Aaranyak, "he passed away at around 10:00 p.m. last night due to age and present health concerns."
"I have really vivid memories with Zorba and he has always been an inspiration to me," Anil Kumar Das, Zorba's initial handler, said.
Zorba was actively involved in anti-poaching activities and has worked in regions like as Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, and Orang National Park.
