Digital Desk: The Assam Government has decided to construct a permanent memorial site for the beloved Assamese icon, Zubeen Garg. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the State Cabinet has entrusted the Public Works Department with the responsibility of building the permanent memorial at Sonapur.

To oversee the planning of the memorial, an 11-member committee has been formed. The committee includes Zubeen Garg's wife Garima Garg, his sister Dr. Palmee Borthakur, Shyamantak Gautam, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Biren Singh, Anuradha Sharma Pujari, Pranjal Saikia, Pulak Banerjee, Dulal Manki, Tarali Sharma, and Sudarshan Thakur. Sudarshan Thakur has also been appointed as the convener of the committee.

Once the committee finalises the plans, the construction work is expected to commence within one to two months.

After the cabinet meeting held yesterday, CM Sarma informed in a press conference that the government is taking necessary steps to ensure swift justice for Zubeen Garg.

He stated, "As per the information provided by the SIT, they are likely to file the chargesheet anytime after November. Although they have a 90-day window, they aim to complete the investigation within November and file the chargesheet by the end of November or the first week of December. Additionally, a fast-track court will be established for this purpose."

The Gauhati High Court Chief Justice was requested by the Cabinet yesterday to establish a fast-track court to expedite the process of delivering justice. Since the judicial process often takes a significant amount of time, the state government has advocated for the formation of a fast-track court.
