    “Actress Rupa Dutta has been arrested in connection with ‘‘kepmari’’ (attention diversion theft), and further investigation is underway to determine whether more people are involved or not,” a police officer said.


    Digital Desk: Popular TV actress Rupa Dutta was arrested for alleged pickpocketing at the International Kolkata Book Fair, police said on Sunday.

    Dutta, who has appeared in television soaps, was arrested on Saturday after a police officer spotted her throwing a purse into a dustbin, according to an officer of Bidhan Nagar North police station.

    Following this, she was arrested and interrogated, during which discrepancies in her answers were found. Moreover, several purses and Rs 75,000 in cash were found in Dutta’s bag during a search.

    “Actress Rupa Dutta has been arrested in connection with ‘‘kepmari’’ (attention diversion theft), and further investigation is underway to determine whether more people are involved or not,” a police officer said.

    Earlier, Dutta was in the news after falsely accusing filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment while posting screenshots of her conversation with another person who shared the same first name as the renowned director on social media.
