    Digital Desk: Chia seeds which originated from Salvia hispanica plant are highly nutritional and can be used in many ways. It is commonly used as a thickening agents in foods such as puddings and pancakes because of its ability to gel. This quality makes them a favourite thickening agent and a suitable binder for vegan consumers too. 

    Chia seeds contain many nutrients, including dietary fiber, protein, healthy fats,and micronutrients.  One spoonful of chia seeds contains around 35 percent of daily fiber requirements, 11 grams of fiber to be specific, that can help to improve  digestion, help with the constipation, and feed the good bacteria in the gut.



    However, there are side effects associated with the taking of too much fiber some of which include stomach aches, constipation, diarrhea, bloating and gas. These
    problems are more common if one does not include enough water with fiber because water assists fiber in passing through the digestive tract.



    Those suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, ulcers or the Crohn’s disease should avoid chia seeds during the inflammation period, since the seeds have lots of fiber, which can cause the worsening of symptoms like abdominal pain, bleeding, diarrhea or weight loss. While research points to the fact that fiber can help  prevent such diseases in the long run, cutting down on fiber during inflammation will be beneficial.

    Most of these side effects can be eliminated simply by taking fiber slowly and making sure to also drink plenty of water. When consumed in moderation Chia seeds can benefit your health
