Tornadoes rip through China’s Jiangsu province, 10 killed

More than 400 people had to be relocated as a result of the disaster, and more than 130 homes were completely destroyed.

Digital Desk: At least 10 people were killed after deadly tornadoes ripped through two cities in China’s eastern Jiangsu province, reported CNN.

It is the most recent fatal extreme weather disaster to afflict the country, which has recently struggled with both disastrous floods and terrible heat waves.

Five people died and four people suffered serious injuries as a result of a strong tornado that struck Suqian city in Jiangsu province on Tuesday, according to the official broadcaster CCTV. According to CNN, the area is on China's east coast.

More than 400 people had to be relocated as a result of the disaster, and more than 130 homes were completely destroyed.

Separately, an even stronger tornado struck Yancheng, which is north of China's largest metropolis, Shanghai, and southeast of Suqian city, on Tuesday night, leaving five people dead and four with minor injuries, according to CCTV. 129 people have also been moved, according to CNN.

According to reports from the official media Beijing Youth Daily and meteorological specialists, mid- to late-September in Jiangsu is not a normal time for tornadoes to develop, but a handful have lately occurred due to recent higher temperatures that have brought about severe weather. (ANI)
