Digital Desk: Karwa Chauth, also known as Karaka Chaturthi, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated with great fervor by married women across India. This special day is observed by women as they fast from sunrise to moonrise, abstaining from food and even water, to pray for the prosperity, well-being, and happiness of their husbands. Karwa Chauth typically falls on Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the Hindu month of Kartik, and this year, the auspicious occasion is marked on November 1, 2023.

The day begins with married women waking up at the crack of dawn, around 4 a.m., to partake in the Sargi ritual. During Sargi, the mother-in-law presents her daughter-in-law with a "thali" (a plate) filled with an assortment of delectable savory and sweet dishes, along with gifts symbolizing blessings and well wishes for a harmonious married life. This heartwarming gesture strengthens the bond between the two.

As evening approaches, women congregate to perform the Karwa Chauth puja, during which they recite the story of Karwa Chauth, offer prayers, and eagerly await the sighting of the moon. The moment the moonrise is observed, the fast is broken, and women go through the ritual of looking at the moon and their husbands through a sieve, symbolizing their connection with the celestial body. They offer prayers to the moon, make offerings, and finally conclude their fast by sharing a small meal and sipping water from their husband's hands. It's a touching and deeply spiritual experience that reflects the enduring love and commitment between married couples.

One crucial aspect of Karwa Chauth is determining the exact time of moonrise. It is essential for the success of the fast and the rituals. Below are the Puja Muhurat and Moonrise times for some major cities in India:
