    On January 1, 1877, Conservative Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli declared Queen Victoria Empress of India. Since 1858, India was governed by the British administration then.


    7. King Edward VII was crowned Emperor of India 


    King Edward VII was declared Emperor of India a few months after his mother, Queen Victoria died. This was a joyous occasion back then because around 16,000 inmates were released on this day. Only two weeks before, Edward VII had suffered from appendicitis.


    8. Air India B747 exploded, killing 213 people


    In 1978, a heinous catastrophe occurs when an Air India B747 explodes, killing 213 people. The event occurred near Bombay. The jumbo plane is on its way to the Middle East. The majority of the passengers were thought to be Indians.


    9. Nana Patekar Birthday 


    Vishwanath Patekar, also known lovingly as Nana Patekar, was born on January 1, 1951. He is a well-known actor, screenwriter, and director. He primarily worked in the Hindi and Marathi film industries. For his portrayal in Parinda, he received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor (1989).


    10. Vidya Balan's Birthday 


    An Indian actress who is most recognised for her work in Hindi films. Vidya Balan was born on January 1, 1979, in Mumbai, India. With her part in female-led films, she was a pioneer in changing the portrayal of women in film. She has also won several honours, including a National Film Award.
